Critical Analysis of Learning Styles - 2743 Words

Critical analysis of learning styles Introduction The theory of Honey and Mumford, describes the styles and learning strategies. It incorporates much of the theory of Kolbs learning cycle, making it more intelligible. It is important to discuss these strategies with students. (Marsick and Watkins, p132-51) While this allows the teacher to become aware of the need to vary their teaching because they do not exist in universal, it also allows learners to realize that everyone learns differently. So its dominant learning strategies can influence its working methods and student personnel can then optimize them. It may also become more self-confidence. Honey and Mumford (1986) take away from Kolb (1984) the idea of an experiential learning model in four stages they call: experience, the return on experience, drawing conclusions and planning. (Waring and Evans, p117-28) According to them, each phase has specific behaviors and attitudes and is important to successfully complete the learning process itself. But most people, through the successes and failures of their behavior in their attempts to learn, develop preferences that make them love certain specific phases of the process. (Marsick and Watkins, p132-51) Models overview To the extent that these phases are preferred by individuals, they define four learning styles, each corresponding to a description of attitudes and behaviors that determine a preferred way of learning by an individual (Honey andShow MoreRelatedEssay Critical Review of Reappraising Cognitive Styles in AWBES837 Words   |  4 Pagesï » ¿ Critical Review of Reappraising Cognitive Styles in Adaptive Web Applications Keni Gin University of Western Ontario Review on Reappraising Cognitive Styles in Adaptive Web Applications Introduction and Related Work This research is based on empirical user trial data and a sophisticated analysis. Descriptive Writing - Original Writing - 1398 Words

At my old house, we had a particularly weird attic. Occasionally, I would straddle up the stairs to the attic and be frightened because of all the creaks and moans in the wooden floor. A menorah and Christmas ornaments are typical things you would find in our attic. Since my mother’s side of the family was Jewish and my father’s side of the family was Christian, these items were normal to see with each other. Most people would not really see a problem with it, and, honestly, neither did I until holiday season arrived during winter. Although I had a bad feeling being in the attic, something told me that I would find something very interesting up there. That voice persuaded me up the stairs and scan anything that caught my eye. Strangely, nothing stood out too except and box in the back corner of that attic that seemed as if it was hidden. It was a small brown, cardboard box that was about the same size of an office trash bin. The label read, â€Å"Tape.† For a while, I debated if I should become Sherlock Holmes and observe the objects inside. Eventually my curiosity got the best of me and opened the box. Inside, there was an old, effete tape player with a tape inside it. On the side of the tape player read, â€Å"Wedding.† Since I was a nosey and curious ten year old, everything feeling inside my body told me that I needed to find out how to function it and start watching this tape. Marian Claro Ms. Catena English 9, Period 1 January 5, 2016 Communism Socialism: Communism and Socialism are interchangeably used a lot, it s mostly because they are similar. They both want to promote equality to remove social classes from society. They also, have the same ideology. Communism and Socialism at first can sound very appealing with everyone in the community doing their duty and completing their responsibilities toward the same communal goal. However, some countries have tried it like China, Cuba, North Korea, and Vietnam, many if not most have failed in the past and or have become dictatorships, which made reforms in the countries nearly impossible to complete. Although,†¦show more content†¦Furthermore, if one discovers the amount of advancements that takes place in socialist and communist countries. One can see that there is very little advancements being accomplished because of how the workers expect their basic needs to be given by the community. This causes the required work to be achieved, but no more progress is obtained than what is needed. Which makes advancements be limited, since they are receiving what s necessary, so that makes them see no point in moving into other activities. This is portrayed in the novel, Animal Farm, when snowball tries to assemble committees because he wants to tame the wild animals so, he can educate the animals by teaching them how to read and write. He also wants to help organize a new movement of advancing into multiple projects for each animal group but, the committees end up being unsuccessful. Like it exclaims in that, On the whole these projects were a failure (Orwell 20). The attempt to tame the wild creatures, or instance, broke down almost immediately. They continued to behave very much as before, and when treated with generosity simply took advantage of it. The animals in animal farm don’t have inspirations to do anything else than to focus on harvesting so their need of having plentiful of food can be met. Furthermore, socialism and communism can be easily comparable to each other when one examines their standards on equality. They both want to either eliminate or narrow down social

A Succesful Conclusion to 1984 - 943 Words

A novel’s ending plays a very important role on the way it is perceived; for example, a novel could have a great plot and character development but having a dissatisfying ending will just make the reader want to toss it directly into the trash can. In his novel 1984, George Orwell manages to link the events throughout the novel into the most satisfactory ending I’ve read so far: Winston’s death. When reading the novel for the first time I thought O’Brien actually belonged to the brotherhood and was somehow trying to help Winston, then, after reading a few more pages I’d go back and in a way battle that thought with the idea that at the end, Winston would end up inevitably dead. It’s that what makes the ending so great, it was caused by†¦show more content†¦The more winston approaches to being sent to room 101, the more he approached to the final stage of the process, the more I convinced myself O’Brien was with the party and h ad just fooled Winston and Julia but a part of me held on to the idea that he really was a member of the brotherhood and was going to help him. By the time I got to the end, I was completely surprised when Winston was killed; I knew that ending was inevitable and past events had lead directly to it, but I really hoped it didn’t as it’s the kind of story you don’t want to end. Even though I wanted the story to keep going, I later realized there was no other ending that would really have worked without changing the novel completely; it was actually the most satisfactory ending I had ever read. This so successfully written conclusion made it seem as if the novel was built from end to beginning or carefully written working towards that end carefully linking each event while having no intention at all of having an ambiguous or uncertain conclusion to the novel. At the beginning of the Novel, Winston gets hold of a small notebook on which he starts writing about how he hates the party, emphasizing big brother, he wrote â€Å"DOWN WITH BIG BROTHER†. And all the way from the beginning he knew, he knew he would end up dead if he kept going with this, he even wrote â€Å"they’ll shoot me i don’tShow MoreRelatedEssay on Communication Leads to Successful Nursing Practice1924 Words   |  8 PagesTITLE : COMMUNICATION LEADS TO SUCCESFUL NURSING PRACTICE ( REFLECTIVE ESSAY ) In this assignment, I will reflect an incident happened during my clinical placement to develop my communication skills not just theoretically but in practical facing real life environment. Synthetic Marijuana the Legal Way to the Grave Free Essays

Synthetic Narcotics- Georgia’s Growing Epidemic As if teaching our youth about the dangers of drugs isn’t hard enough, now we have company’s manufacturing a synthetic form of Marijuana, commonly referred to as â€Å"Spice† or â€Å"K-2†. These company’s target our youth by packaging it colorful, shiny packets and giving â€Å"cool† names like â€Å"magic monkey† or â€Å"purple passion†. They label these packages â€Å"herbal incense† and â€Å"not for human consumption† in an attempt to hide its intended use and avoid FDA regulations, yet for one package containing 5 grams it costs on average $15. We will write a custom essay sample on Synthetic Marijuana: the Legal Way to the Grave or any similar topic only for you Order Now 9-$21. 99. That’s pretty expensive for an â€Å"air freshener†. In 2011, 14. 4 percent of 12 graders admitted to experimenting with synthetic marijuana. Just last March, 16 year old honor student, and star soccer player from Fayette County, Ga. Chase Burnett died shortly after experimenting with this drug. This had law makers act quick and enact â€Å"Chases Law† , Georgia House Bill 370, which made this drug a Schedule 1 Controlled Substance and a felony to purchase, possess and distribute any form of this substance. Once this bill was signed by Gov. Nathan Deal, it took about 24 hours for police agencies, mine being one, to conduct search warrants all over metro Atlanta to get this deadly drug off the shelves. Although now illegal, and rightfully so, there are many retail stores, smoke shops and gas stations that still sell the drug all over Georgia and around the Metro Atlanta area. As quick as officers take it off the shelves, it’s being replaced just as fast. Shop owners feel it’s a violation of their civil rights and use excuses like â€Å"we can’t control what customers do with what they buy† or they tell officers they didn’t know it was illegal, â€Å"it’s just incense†. If they didn’t know it was illegal and didn’t think they were doing anything wrong, why do they keep it hidden behind the counter, out of sight and locked up? Why are they charging so much money for something that normally would cost about $2, if really used as an air freshener? These, as well as many more questions have been raised by not only Law Enforcement, but parents as well. As consumers, the best way to stop these shops and gas stations from selling this to our youth is stop buying your gas or any other items at these locations. It’s now and always will be about the money. Once they see customers going across the street to get gas, they will get the hint. Another way businesses are being put on notice is letting them know that their business license will be revoked if caught selling these and any other illegal substances from their stores. With the new laws enacted and parents working together with Law Enforcement, we are starting to get a tighter grip on this fast growing epidemic that is plaguing are children. Emily Bronte Essay Example For Students

Emily Bronte Essay The biography of Emily Bronte is very concise. She remains enigmatic because so little is known about her, and what is known is contradictory. She only produced one novel and a little bit of poetry, which gives one very little upon which to build. Most of how Emily is seen is through the eyes of her sister, Charlotte, another well known author. From the information available, her life seemed to be of â€Å"dreary conformity. † In some ways, Emily led an ordinary life of a nineteenth century emale, attending boarding school for a bit of education and learning domestic skills at home. In other ways, her life was unusual and even eccentric, which contributed to the originality of her great novel. Emily Jane Bronte was born on July 30, 1818 in Thorton, Yorkshire. She was the fifth child and fourth daughter of Reverend Patrick Bronte and Maria Branwell Bronte. When she was two years old, the family moved to Haworth which remained Emily’s home until she passed away in December of 1848 at the age of thirty. Both of Emily’s parents had the literacy leanings – her mother published one essay, and her father wrote four books and a little poetry. None of the literacy attempts were successful, but the urge for written expression was present. In 1821, Maria died of cancer, leaving Emily and her four siblings motherless. Her sister, Elizabeth, came to live as a housekeeper and was responsible for training the girls in the household arts. The village of Haworth was very isolated and intensely Yorkshire. The people were blunt, practical, stubborn, sparing of peech, vigorous and very harsh. They were the products of the moors – the tracts of rocky land, where the north wind shrieks mercilessly, and the only softening influence is the sheep, the purple heather, and the ferny bracken. It was these moors that built the spirit of the Bronte’s and filled their souls with love and liberty. This was especially true for Emily†¦ In 1824, the four eldest daughters†¦ The rest of the paper is available free of charge to our registered users. The registration process just couldn’t be easier. My name is Indrawati Husna. It is a great pleasure for me to be given the opportunity to deliver a speech entitled; Go Green. Ladies and gentlemen Go Green! program of environmental protection. This is just a simple phrase. But it means a lot for our earth. It aims at making global movements to participate actively in saving our earth – the only planet in which we live. In the last century, we know that our environment especially our rainforest in Indonesia has been cut down by human. We will write a custom essay sample on Go Green or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Scientists state the function of rainforest as lungs of the world. Based on fact, Indonesia has lost 72% of the original forest. How horrible it is! The deforestation will influence a lot of our environment. If deforestation keeps going on, the greenhouse effects cannot be reduced and finally the global warming will keep increasing. It warns us that our earth is in danger and we should participate actively to take care of our environment. Ladies and gentlemen Human growth increased, but not supported by natural growth. The modern people in this millennium era had affected so many destructive impacts which are really needed to be concern. They not only want to increase their prosperity, but also increase their rate of comfortable and luxurious life. Because of that the protected animal and plant nearly extinct, forest logging without reboization, and uncontrolled of mine exploitation. The impact of those problem cause Global Warming keeps increasing that its disaster such as floods, earthquake, landslides that can kill human life. The disaster can happen anytime and anywhere, every month even every week. We have to be worry about this. Ladies and gentlemen We live in the same world; in this earth. Nature balance was really disturbed by human behavior. As the youth generation without exception we should devote and participate on any program that cares to our environment and go green is one of them. The importance of Go green is making our environment to be green and full of fresh air. Everyone must be responsible for every single plant. We should do this for our better future environment. If there are 300 million people in Indonesia, there will be 300 millions of plants in Indonesia. In addition, planting any kinds of trees in the barren area or in side of the road can be done. That is a good start. These activities can be supported by doing another activity in saving our earth such as: 1. Stop deforestation and do reforestation movement 2. Reduce the use / purchase of goods made of plastic because almost all of plastic waste will produce harmful gases when burned and can pollute the environment. 3. Don’t throw away rubbish anywhere which can disturb the flowing of the river water. 4. Reduce fuel consumption. I believe we all can do and cooperate together. No one will get disadvantage. Ladies and gentlemen The importance of saving our environment is the need for all of us, for human being to survive. It is not only for us, but also for our next generation. The disasters above can be minimized if all of human beings can preserve our environment and we must pay more attention to our environment whenever and wherever. By doing those simple efforts, it means we have participated in the preservation of our environment. I think that’s all my speech. Hopefully it will be useful for all of us and thank you very much for your attention.
